The radius of effected properties stretch well beyond those sharing a property lines. Historic Studies have shown properties within a five-mile radius of a new quarry can loose up to 20% of their market value. When a new quarry is built, property values in the immediate vicinity typically decrease significantly, with the most drastic drop occurring for homes located closest to the quarry; this is due to the negative impacts like noise, dust, truck traffic, and visual disruption associated with quarry operations, leading to reduced desirability for potential buyers.
Along with our Endangered species, our native wildlife will be greatly impacted. It would be reasonable to assume many animals would be killed!
Local wells and Springs are at risk of contamination and destruction.
Most families living in the direct area of the proposed quarry have no access to county water and are on wells. Some families only have drinking water from springs.
Heavy machinery, heavy vehicles, blasting operations and even vehicle reversing alarms are all obvious sources of noise in quarrying operations that can cause significant disturbance to the siteβs neighboring homes, farms, wildlife, and churches. Mining noise can be heard from miles away!
Metro Atlanta gets 30% of it's drinking water from Lake Allatoona. Stamp Creek is the lakes ONLY pristine water source. The sedimentation from mining near Stamp Creek will further diminish the quality of the water. Please see the letter from a GM at Lake Allatoona in the Documents section.
Use of dangerous explosives can compromise the structure of protected historical sites possibly including Native American Burial Grounds.
